Artists

Artists, the deadline for artwork is today, Thursday March 25. Please email your submissions and your headers to housebigbangmods@gmail.com.

A hearty House Big Bang congratulations goes out to those who've sent us their artwork!

Thank you so much to everyone who's completed the challenge. There are many beautiful pieces that we look forward to sharing with everyone on April 1, also known as Reveal Day.

Writers

That's right, the Big Bang Reveal is happening on April 1, which means all corrections, edits, and last-minute betas must be complete before then! Get on over to the AO3 to fix those last typos--the mods will be revealing all the stories to the public in just over five days' time.

Look of the Comm

In the next few days, the mods will be putting up placeholder posts for each artist. On April 1, these will show each artists' work, which we'll link to in a masterlist for ease of navigation. If you visit the comm in the next week, you might see several placeholder posts in a row. If you're looking for older posts, please just scroll down!

Authors, your stories will also be linked to in the masterlist, and your artist's post will also link to your story. You can display your artists' work on your story itself by copypasting the Pimpin' Code Block that will be part of each artist's post.

All Participants

Reveal Day is April 1. We ask that you don't repost your story or artwork elsewhere until April 7, one week later. After that, please feel free to put your art or story up on your personal journal, website, or wherever you like!

We're getting hugely excited for the reveal, and we hope you are too! Until then, big bangers!

Artists

Artists, we hope that you've been inspired over the last month to create something awesome for the story of your choice. As we approach the final artists' deadline, we're already receiving many amazing pieces. This is your reminder post that the deadline for artists' submissions is this Thursday, March 25! Please send your full art or vid to housebigbangmods@gmail.com along with your headers and your preview and thumbnail images.

Thank you so much to the artists who have already submitted some or all of their artwork!

Congratulations, everyone who's completed the challenge!

Pinch Artists

Artists, if for any reason you will be dropping out of the challenge, please let the mods know since we will need to find a pinch-artist for your story! The sooner we know, the simpler this process will be.

If you are interested in being a pinch artist for the challenge, please contact the mods. We love and respect our pinch hitters and shower them with much gratitude! As a pinch artist, you would have until March 29 to create one piece of art for a big bang story. Remember, the story serves as inspiration, but if you feel you could not read the whole thing, you could illustrate a single scene or moment that grabs your attention.

Writers

On the AO3, our Round One and Round Two collections are starting to fill up with the stories from those years. If you were a participant then, feel free to upload your stories to the proper collection. If you need an AO3 account, email the mods or comment here, and we will send you an invitation. To link to your artists' work at the top of your story, simply find your Art Pimpin' Code Block in this post and cut and paste it above your story text.

Just over a week left until this year's reveal! Yay!

Artists

Hi, artists! It's been two weeks since assignments were sent out, give or take, and that means there are approximately two weeks left before the artists' deadline, March 25! We hope everyone's having a marvelous time reading their stories and creating something beautiful to accompany them.

In fact, several artists have already done so, and we'd love to have a big round of thunderous applause for the artists who've already completed this year's challenge!

[livejournal.com profile] bironic
[livejournal.com profile] hjsnapepm
[livejournal.com profile] hockypocky
[livejournal.com profile] tuckp3
[livejournal.com profile] vicodin_martini

Good luck to our other artists over the next few weeks! There will be another reminder post on March 23, and then on the deadline date itself.

In addition, if you are interested in being a pinch hit artist, please let the mods know by emailing housebigbangmods@gmail.com! We may well have a challenge for you in the next couple of weeks!

Writers

If you've been a participant in previous years of [livejournal.com profile] house_bigbang, remember that you can upload your story to the AO3 for the appropriate year! [livejournal.com profile] hwshipper has helpfully begun the process so that everyone can have an example story to take a look at.

If you were a writer in the first year, you can upload your story to the Round One collection.

If you were a writer in the second year, you can upload your story to the Round Two collection.

If you need an AO3 account, email the mods or comment here, and we will send you an invitation. If you'd like us to write the code that will have a thumbnail version of your story's art with a link to your artists' feedback posts, we will happily provide that as well! Just let us know.

We're getting ever closer to this year's Big Bang reveal, and your exuberant mods are very excited for that day. We hope you are too!

Hi, participants!

Artists

All of the stories picked in the second round of the artists' portion have been sent out! If you didn't get your art assignment after picking a story, then please email the mods.

Thank you for making the second round of artist picks successful! This is the announcement that the third round will happen tomorrow, Tuesday, February 23 at 7 PM Australia/Melbourne time. Here's a handy time zone converter so that you can find out when that will be in your area. For instance, it's 8 AM GMT and yes, your faithful mods will be awake even then.

If you haven't gotten a story yet, this round is for you. Also, if you missed your first choice during the first or second rounds, now would be the time to try. If you already have two assignments, please don't sign up for a third--we want everyone to have the opportunity to get the stories they want, and we want everyone to have enough time to concentrate on the assignments they already have. All assignments will be sent out the same day or the following day, and that will end the story-picking part of the artists' portion.

Good luck, artists!

Hi, participants!

Artists

All of the stories picked in the first round of the artists' portion have been sent out! If you didn't get your art assignment after picking a story yesterday, then please email the mods.

Thank you for making the first round of artist picks successful! This is the announcement that the second round will happen tomorrow, Thursday, February 18 at 7 PM GMT. Here's a handy time zone converter so that you can find out when that will be in your area. For instance, it's 2 PM EST and, I believe, very early in the morning in Australia. (Don't worry, Australian fans: Round Three will favour your part of the world!)

If you haven't gotten a story yet, this round is for you. Also, if you missed your first choice during the first round, now would be the time to try. All assignments will be sent out the same day or the following day, and then there will be one final round of picks a few days later, with the time and date to be announced.

Good luck, artists!

Hi, participants!

Writers

Writers, the complete draft deadline has PASSED. A hearty [livejournal.com profile] house_bigbang CONGRATULATIONS to the people who have completed the challenge!

[livejournal.com profile] crescent_gaia
[livejournal.com profile] hwshipper
[livejournal.com profile] lauriestein
[livejournal.com profile] mer_duff
[livejournal.com profile] piscesmoon
[livejournal.com profile] queenzulu

That brings us up to fifteen stories for the third round of the challenge! We've done pretty well over the years--thirteen, sixteen, and fifteen--so this is a very solid round. And writers, we have approximately thirty artists eager to see those summaries and make you some art! We guarantee one piece of art per story, of course, but it's very likely that you might get two or even three pieces. Feel free to watch as the Artists' Portion gets started tonight!

Artists

Artists, today is your day! The artists' portion kicks off at 7 PM EST for the first round. You've been sent an email to that effect, and we hope that you all have plenty of anticipation built up. There are a variety of pairings, crossovers, and genres in these stories, so we hope there'll be something to interest everyone!

If you're an artist and there's a specific time of day that would work best for you for our Second Round of artist picks, please feel free to leave us a comment: we want to make the rounds as convenient for the largest number of artists if it's at all possible.

And that's all until tonight, folks! Congratulations to our writers and good luck to our artists!
[identity profile] zulu.livejournal.com
Hi, participants!

Writers

CONGRATULATIONS!

Our most concentrated and dolphin-alluring squee to everyone who's sent in their complete drafts already! Can we get a warm round of [livejournal.com profile] house_bigbang applause for the following participants?

[livejournal.com profile] ducks_in_a_row
[livejournal.com profile] hannahrorlove
[livejournal.com profile] hilandmum
[livejournal.com profile] jesmel
[livejournal.com profile] tuckp3

It's exciting to see those drafts come rolling in. Keep up the great work, everybody!

THE DEADLINE APPROACHETH!

The deadline is midnight EST on February 15. However, your benevolent mods are quite likely to interpret that as "when they wake up on February 16." So keep your hopes up and keep on writing--the mods will announce in the comm when the deadline has passed.

NOTES ON SUBMISSIONS!

1. Please include your headers and excerpt! We need them to make the artists' portion post. Reminder of what headers we need and what an excerpt should look like. )

2. Please let us know if you need an AO3 invite. Don't worry, we assume most of you will! Just mention in your email whether you have an account or not, and that way we won't send invites to people who already have an account.

3. Please post your story to the AO3 as soon as possible--and watch out for drafts! As mods of the house_bigbang10 collection, WE CAN SEE YOU. *insert spooky music here* We know who's uploaded and who hasn't! For our own peace of mind, we'd prefer to see the stories uploaded sooner rather than later. (Want to take a look at the number of works so far? You can see them here.)

When you post your story, make sure it isn't a draft. Because the mods are keeping the challenge stories "invisible", it's okay to post your story fully. No one will be able to see it before the challenge reveal. However, if your story is still a draft at reveal time, it will remain visible only to you. It's better to post your story fully just to be sure. Don't worry--you can still edit it any time you like!

A couple of people have uploaded to the challenge twice: once as a draft and once as a complete story. Please delete your draft and keep your full story!

4. Any questions? Read the FAQ, then contact your helpful mods! The FAQ for uploading stories to the AO3 is here. If you're still having difficulties, email the mods; we'll do our best to help. We're most effective with questions about the big bang challenge and the story-uploading process. If you have problems with the Archive itself, please give them your feedback. The Archive is a fan-created effort, and they're interested in hearing from you.

Artists

Artists, your portion of the challenge is nearly at hand! It will begin on February 16 at 7 PM EST. That's midnight GMT, 5 PM Mountain Standard Time, and 11 AM in parts of Australia. (Confused yet? Here's a handy time zone converter.)

Remember, artists, we're going to do several rounds, so if this time isn't convenient for you, there will be other rounds at other times of day!

The relevant FAQ for artists goes into a bit more depth, but at its most basic, the process will look like this:

- The mods will put up a post with anonymous stories and summaries.
- Artists will comment with their top (and possibly second) choice to make art for.
- Picks are first come, first served. Once a story is picked, it will be crossed off for that round.
- When all stories have been picked once, the round is over.
- Mods send a copy of the story to the artists, and artists make art.
- A second round will happen on a different day and different time. Artists can pick up to two stories in different rounds if they like.
- A third round will happen if there is sufficient interest.

We are still accepting ARTIST SIGN-UPS until February 15.

Questions? Concerns? Queries? Leave them in comments or email your faithful housebigbangmods@gmail.com.

Good luck, participants! We're looking forward to seeing what you create!

Hi, participants!

Writers

Writers, you have two weeks left before your complete drafts are due! Good luck during those final tense weeks--I know I, personally, am not alone among your mods in saying "Eeep!"

However, there are some among you who have already triumphed! You may celebrate them; you may envy them; you may stare at them in mute wonder and awed inspiration. Let's have a big round of applause for those who have already sent in their complete drafts and who are, even now, uploading them to the House Big Bang collection on the AO3!

Congratulations! And it's exciting to start seeing those drafts appearing, so keep 'em coming, participants!

Artists

The artists' portion of the challenge is fast approaching! This means that your esteemable mods are reminding the world that sign-ups are still open, and they will be until February 15. Remember, you'll have a month to read a longfic and create one (or more, if you wish) piece of accompanying art.

Artists who've already signed up, the mods will be emailing you BEFORE the artists' portion begins to let you know the exact time and date that the story-choosing will go live. There will also be a reminder post here in the community, so make sure that you're a member and watching.

Artists who haven't already signed up, we'd love to have you! If you have any suggestions about where we could post that would broaden our artist-audience, those would also be welcome.

Artists' sign-ups are HERE, so come on down!

Thanks, everybody, and you can look forward to our next Reminder Post on February 13. Good luck until then!
[identity profile] zulu.livejournal.com
Hi, writer participants!

Can you believe how fast the time has flown? It's January 15, and that means there is ONE MONTH LEFT before complete drafts are due!

Whether you've only just begun (hey, I am totally capable of writing 20 000 words in a month) or already finished, this is the post to either act smugly superior or nervously guilty. If you need some cheerleading, some beta support, or just to let us know that you're still here, then comment away. It's also the place to do some handholding for your fellow participants! Remember, too, that there's always [livejournal.com profile] housebigbangers if you want to post on- or off-topic about any Big Bang business.

Remember, you can submit your complete drafts before the deadline if you like! Simply email a .doc, .rtf, or .txt file to housebigbangmods@gmail.com and we will check your wordcount and your ending, and then send you an invitation to the Archive Of Our Own so that you can upload your story as a Mystery Work. There is no final draft deadline, so you can take as long as you like after that to make any corrections and edits.

If you have more questions, please read the FAQ that was posted recently. If you still have more questions, please feel free to email the mods or comment with them. We will have another reminder post on February 1, and of course one right before the deadline.

Good luck in the final weeks, big bangers!

Hi, writer participants!

Happy holidays, everyone! The second month of the writing challenge has gone by. We're halfway to the Complete Draft Due Date! Is your story half-way done to match?

Hi, writer participants!

Well, would you look at the date? The first month of the writing challenge has gone by. So: have you started? Outlined? Plotted? Researched? Managed to open a word document (the crucial first step!)?

Hi, everyone!

As a reminder, writers' sign-ups for Round Three will close tomorrow at 11:59 PM EST, so if you're on the fence about joining up, you have just over a day to make your decision! Then bop on over here to tell us you're on board.

For everyone who's already signed up, welcome! As a reminder, our Plotbunny Post is here, so feel free to donate and appropriate ideas for your Big Bang.

Artists' sign-ups will begin once writers' sign-ups close, so if you have been looking for that post, be assured that it will appear on Friday.

Also, if you're looking for cheerleading, support, or a place to offer/ask for beta services, then you can join [livejournal.com profile] housebigbangers. Membership and posting are unmoderated, so if you want to squee, encourage, commiserate, or flail in that wonderful combination of joy and terror that only a Big Bang can inspire, then feel free to post there!

Hi, participants!

In all likelihood, the Big Bang Archive will be going live at MIDNIGHT TONIGHT (Mountain Standard Time, naturally). Please feel free to edit your Feedback Posts to PUBLIC at any point today.

Another reminder will be posted when the archive goes live.

Hi, participants!

Today, of course, is the deadline for artists' submissions. Artists, you have until 11:59 PM, Mountain Standard Time, or until the mods go to bed, whichever is later. Good luck in those last twelve hours!

Hi, artists!

Just a quick reminder that the due date for art submissions is in less than a week, on March 15. Again, more information about submission guidelines for artists can be found on the FAQ. If you have questions or if you feel that you won't be able to complete the challenge on time, please email the mods at housebigbangmods@gmail.com.

For all participants, March 15 is also when we'll be starting to collect links to Feedback Posts, so stay tuned for more information.

Congratulations to more of our artists who have completed the challenge!

Hi, participants!

Writers

The writers' portion of the challenge is drawing to a close. This is a reminder that all Final Drafts are due on Saturday, February 7, by 11:59 PM Mountain Standard Time. That gives you four more days with your edits, writers! You are always welcome to hand in your final drafts early if they're finished.

Once you've submitted your final draft, the mods will be creating a very basic html file of your story for you to read over for typos one last time. All typo-approving must be finished by February 15. If you do not contact the mods with any typo problems before that date, we will assume that there are no problems with your final draft, and it will be placed in the archive.

Congratulations to those writers who have already handed in their drafts! Please join me in a round of applause.

Artists

The artists' portion of the challenge is about to begin! Artists' sign-ups continue until February 7. The post is here. On February 8, the first round of artist selection begins. A post will be made on the community with the headers and a brief excerpt from each story. Artists will choose their first and second choice stories and comment to claim them. First come, first served! The mods will reply to your comment to let you know which story you've been assigned. Please be flexible if you do not get your first choice. Also, if there is enough interest, a second round of artist selection will occur, so you will have another opportunity to pick your first-choice story.

Once you have been assigned a story, the mods will send you the final draft so that you can read it for inspiration. You will then have a month to create art. The art should be submitted to the mods as outlined in the FAQ.

If you have any questions, please read the FAQ, comment here, or email the mods at housebigbangmods@gmail.com.

Good luck, writers! And welcome, artists!
[identity profile] zulu.livejournal.com
Hi, participants!

This is just a reminder that FINAL DRAFTS of stories are due in approximately two weeks, on FEBRUARY 7, 2009.

If you are interested in how the Final Draft should be formatted, then you can check the FAQ under cut cut labelled The Final Draft. Please keep in mind that this is last year's FAQ, and an updated FAQ with several additions and changes will be posted next week; however, the Final Draft formatting requirements will remain the same.

You must include the following headers and an excerpt with your final draft. )

If this is unclear, or you have further questions, please email us at housebigbangmods@gmail.com.

The Artists' Portion of the challenge will begin February 8. This is one day later than the official timeline suggests, but we are postponing it twenty-four hours to ensure that we receive all the writers' final drafts before the artists begin picking stories. The method for picking stories is outlined in the FAQ, here, and more details will be given when the Artists' Portion begins.

We'd also like to start our List Of People Who Amaze Us, also known as Participants Who Have Completed The Challenge:

[livejournal.com profile] hwshipper

...okay, so it's a short list so far. But we are certain that it will grow over the next two weeks, and we wish you the best of luck with that, writers!
[identity profile] zulu.livejournal.com
Happy New Year's, Big Bang participants!

Here's hoping you rang in the new year in style--frantically pounding out those words to make the [livejournal.com profile] house_bigbang deadline, only one week away!

That's right, this is your last reminder post for COMPLETE DRAFTS, that is, a finished story at least 20 000 words long. It can be awful; it can be unbetaed; there is no judgement here.

How do you continue in the challenge? Simply send a copy of your Big Bang to housebigbangmods@gmail.com. Word, RTF, and plaintext documents are all acceptable; the mods will let you know if a format prevents them from reading the story. The mods will run your story through a word count and read the last paragraph to see if the story has something resembling a conclusion. They shall email you back with praise and congratulations to let you know that you're good to go!

Complete drafts may be sent at any time in the next week. The cut-off time will be 11:59 PM, Wednesday, January 7, 2009, Mountain Standard Time. (That's two hours more than you'd get if your lovely mods worked by the Eastern Standard timezone!)

FINAL DRAFTS, wordperfect, betaed, and typo-free, are due on February 7, 2009. That's another whole month! Calls for betas can be posted to [livejournal.com profile] housebigbangers. Remember, all final drafts MUST be betaed.

Here's hoping your 2009 is off to a rousing start, participants! Good luck in the next week. We here at [livejournal.com profile] house_bigbang can't wait to see your stories.
[identity profile] zulu.livejournal.com
Hi, participants!

Time sure has been flying, and the last month of the writer's portion of the challenge is upon us. There will be another Reminder Post one week before the complete drafts are due. We hope you've all been busy and writing lots!

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] usomitai for running group chats through [livejournal.com profile] housebigbangers. Hopefully you have found people to support and people to freak out with. Remember, the support comm is there for finding betas, or just general OT posts vaguely related to your big bang project, or any sort of capslocking flail that you'd like.

Complete Drafts

A complete draft has:
1. 20 000 words minimum, and
2. An ending.

Your dutiful mods will be running your submission through a wordcount. They will also be skimming the last paragraph of the story simply to ensure that the final sentence doesn't trail off unfinished...

Remember, you must submit a complete draft on or before January 7 in order to stay in the challenge. Final drafts--word-perfect, betaed, and typo-free--are not due until February 7.

Artists

Artists, it's time to start gearing up for your portion of the challenge! If you know of any fanartists or vidders who would like to participate, please encourage them to sign up HERE. The rules and timeline for artists are included in that post.

Artists can sign up for the next two months, until February 7. We look forward to having you!

All Participants

If you feel that you will be unable to complete the challenge, please let the mods know at housebigbangmods@gmail.com. Thank you very much; this helps us to keep track.

Happy last month of the challenge, writers, and good luck finishing!
