Subject: A wallpaper for 'The Last Post.'
Pairing/Rating: House and Cameron, G.
Medium: Collage/manip.

Title: The Last Post
Author: [livejournal.com profile] jesmel
Pairing: House/Cameron
Rating: Mature
Length: 32 000 words
Spoilers: AU.
Summary: In 1942, the world is at war and House has nothing left.
Excerpt:
It was cold. His body was shaking and he was having trouble moving. The air was too thick and the silence was oppressive. He was balancing precariously on a duckboard over a wide pool of mud. He knew that if he fell, that would be it. He'd seen men and even horses disappear into these endless pools of slush and no one ever got pulled out again. Even if someone were quick enough to throw you something to hold on to, the weight of your clothes and equipment would drag you down, the earth welcoming you into its embrace. The duckboards weren't wide enough and they were too slippery for any sort of rescue effort to have a chance at success. Most men simply watched sadly as their fellow soldier drowned quickly. House knew that the mud wanted him, like it was a living thing capable of such desires. He could feel it somehow. So he was careful, making sure that his foot was safely in the middle of each wooden plank before he took a step. He didn't want to be here, had fought so hard to stay away and there was no way in hell he was going to die in this cesspool. He would make it. His breathing sounded harsh in his ears, the only sound at all.

Title: Memories are made of this.
Subject: A wallpaper for 'House Renovations.'
Pairing/Rating: House and Cameron, G.
Medium: Collage/manip.

Title: House Renovations
Author: [livejournal.com profile] athousandsmiles
Pairing: House/Cameron
Rating: Mature
Word Count: 24 545 words
Spoilers: Broken, Teamwork, and possibly other eps of season six, with references to previous seasons as well.
Summary: It's not just the broken down house that needs fixing. It's the two people sharing it. And maybe, by working together to fix up the old house, they can fix themselves as well.
Excerpt:
Her house is a one story ranch with a wide front porch that stretches across the entire structure. The sagging steps and mismatched columns are weather beaten and the shutters hang from the windows like droopy eyelids. The paint, a shade of eggplant that is far less garish than it would seem, is peeling away from the house in papery wisps. To the casual eye, the house is cold and unfeeling, ravaged by time and the elements, but Cameron looks deeper and sees the heart and soul beneath the harsh exterior and she knows in an instant that she's found home.

House has very few regrets, but this... this unintended consequence of his meddling is one of them. Chase should be the one leaving, not Cameron. There is a big part of him that wants to set things right, make her come back. But the little voice in his head that now sounds suspiciously like Dr. Nolan, tells him he's already meddled enough, that he should apologize and move on instead of trying to fix things. That doesn't mean he can't make Chase's life more miserable though. On the other hand, she's gone. How much worse can he make things? He doesn't even know where she's gone and the not knowing bugs him more than anything. She's the itch that never got scratched; the one that got away. A wisp of cobweb stuck to his psyche. She's unfinished business-- his not quite lover.

Hmmm, sorry to be a pain, but when I pimped this piece in my LJ, the image leads to the first piece in this entry, so that you have to scroll down to see the art for my story. Is that how it's supposed to work?

[personal profile] athousandsmiles 2010-04-01 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I think this problem is the same in the master list. The second art listed for my story is the one for [livejournal.com profile] jesmel at the top of this entry. I just noticed that. *sheepish smile*

No problem. I help run a fic awards comm, so I know how much work all the coding is and how easy it is to get some mixed up. Plus, I suck at HTML. Heh!

I could not have imagined better artwork for my story. And this piece just looks exactly like a perfect mix of House and Cameron's tastes. That wall of photos is phenomenal. Thank you so much, [livejournal.com profile] pandorashollow

I love the one you made for [livejournal.com profile] jesmel too.

Thank you so much, I'm so glad that you like it because I've struggled a bit with it. I didn't know what kind of art to make and it was only 2 days before the deadline that I settled on this wall of memories. I've looked at a million of house's trying to find one that fits your description. In the end I decided on the one that you can see in the left corner of the wallpaper.
A little explanation to the frame with the kids pictures. It's a young Allison, a young Greg (yes, mama Blythe is behind that ;)) and the last pic is of a baby Allison with her mom.

Thank you for the explanation of the pictures with the children. That is SO AWESOME!! I wish I could stand in that hallway and just examine all those photos up close. And the picture of the house is perfect. I want to live in that house. Amazing work. I can't say enough about it, and I immediately put it up at my LJ so all my f-list could see it too. *hugs you*

Oh, I LIKE! That took tremendous imagination and a LOT of hard work. All those manips alone are enough to make my eyes cross just thinking about the work behind them. :-)

MARVELOUS!

Thank you very much for that wonderful compliment :)

So exciting!!!! Such an accomplishment for you guys.

The artwork for your story and [livejournal.com profile] jesmel's story is phenomenal. Just lovely and seemingly in tune with your fiction.

I like the excerpts you both chose. T's story sounds really good, from that excerpt -- well researched.

The stories, the artwork.... so perfect! You are brilliant, guys! &hearts
And I'm so grateful that Pandora posted the link at the house_cameron comm, I wouldn't have found this otherwise! Thank you!

Wallpaper Must! That wall of pictures is just awesome!

I have to admit it is more a testament to digital photography and its advances in how believable you can make House Cameron pictures appear on the walls, but I do love how natural you made that that wall of photos look. It really looks like a scene in their alternative history home. It is House Cameron relationship fiction in motion. I put it up on my computer to enjoy for a while and I can't say enough about how much I wish the relationship had developed that far at some point.

Keeping this image for life. Thanks so much for making it!

Thank you! I'm glad you like it. I wasn't sure how the wall would be perceived by others, so it gives a great thrill when I read such wonderful comments like yours :)

You know, after Teamwork, this scenario is exactly what happened. Everything else is fake ;)

These are just beautiful Pandora. I love the memory wall for House Renovations. The details like the light fixture reflecting off the glass are amazing. And in the one for The Last Post, Cameron's clothes even look like they are from the 1940s.

Thank you! *hugs*

The wall for "The last post" is a manip...well, Cameron's clothes are. It's from the movie "Atonement"

[identity profile] zulu.livejournal.com 2010-04-05 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
So cool! I love the completely different styles of the two pieces. The first one, minimalist, darker, the sadness of their poses turned ever so slightly away from each other. Cameron's dress seems perfect for the 1940s; I don't know much about the styles then, but the one you've picked really fits as far as I can tell. The quote, too, goes with it, as a sort of epistolary addition that emphasizes the bittersweetness of the visuals.

And then the second one! Big, bright, open, happy. Man, so much work must've gone into each of those individual manips. I think my favourite is Cameron laughing and leaning on the piano while House plays. It feels immediate and candid, and I think the black-and-white photography effect is perfect for the sort of picture people frame and put up in their homes. Great work!

Thank you so much :)

When I read the first story, I knew I needed House & Cameron in clothes of that era. The first movie that popped into my head was "Atonement". So that's a Cameron/Keira Knightley manip. I tried a manip of House too but then I figured that that picture of House was already perfect the way it is.
I didn't want to put too much detail on that wall. I thought the looks on their faces were expressing all their anguish.

Making the manips for "House Renovations" was actually easy. My biggest problem was to figure what kind of art I wanted to make. Once I had the idea of a wall with pictures, everything happened quickly. Half of the manips I had already made some time ago and I decided to use them now, they were perfect for this story.
