Title: The Mayfield Redepmtion
Author: [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu
Pairing: House/Foreman, House-Wilson friendship
Rating: Explicit
Length: WORDCOUNT
Spoilers: Through season six.
Summary: "I want to get better, whatever the hell that means."
Excerpt:
"Consider this your chance at Zihuatanejo," Nolan said. His amused half-smile meant he was one-upping House's prison humour to prove it didn't bother him.

"The villa on the Pacific might not be cripple-accessible," House returned, hefting his cane. "And if you're casting yourself as the man who can get me things, hand over the letter."

"The Atlantic will have to do," Nolan agreed. "Do you have someone you can stay with for the first few days?" His hand rested on House's letter, in its envelope.

House tensed, eyes boring into Nolan's fingers, watching for the first sign that they'd twitch it back. "No," he said.

"I need you to be reachable."

"I have a phone."

"It shouldn't be a surprise that I'm going to be checking up on you," Nolan said. His voice was gentle, on the edge of sanctimonious, but he'd never slipped over that line. Nolan treated their sessions like a verbal chess game. More often than not he sounded like he was genuinely interested in seeing House's next move, and the fact that he didn't pretend to know if his mate was going to hold made him tolerable. Sometimes.

House sat back, rolling his cane over his lap with his palms. "Not Wilson."

Nolan raised his eyebrows and let one of his damn silences spin out. House glanced across his face, checking for some sign beyond faint, polite interest, and then looked down into his lap, gripping the cane's handle to stop himself from giving tells. Nolan would file this away with everything else he'd dragged out of House over the last few weeks, and lord it over him when House was least ready for the attack. "He doesn't deserve it," House muttered.

"The pleasure of your company," Nolan asked, "or the problem of it?"

Hi! I am completely exhausted from modding right now, so this comment won't be as GUSHINGLY INCOHERENT as this vid demands, and there will be a proper comment later. But I wanted you to know that THIS IS PERFECT. The music, the clips, the way you've managed to include every significant relationship from the story--it feels so much like the trailer of a movie I'd be lined up to see for a midnight showing on opening day!

You inspired me so much--I'm lucky, I'm the mod, so I've been watching this pretty much non-stop since it arrived. And seeing how you envisioned the story kept me going. I love it so much! Thank you!

*blushes terribly*

Thank you so much! I'm so very happy you liked it. I have to say I still feel like it doesn't do the story justice, I really adored reading it. I'm not really into Foreman very much and I haven't really read House/Foreman fics before but I'm so very glad I ended up picking your story. It was a fantastic read. I printed it all and read it two consecutive nights in bed, I would have read it in one go if I hadn't fallen asleep bc it was so late. It was exciting, and incredibly well written even if it was only a draft, and the emotions were conveyed brilliantly. Your characters were very much in character, the dialogues were great! I may have been annoying my friends with quotes from it while working on the vid. :P

I'm definitely going to reread it one of these days now that it's ready.

And I'm really very happy you liked the vid.

Okay, I am back, with more incoherent flail as promised!

Right from the first words, "Even someone broken..." I was hooked, because yes yes yes, that's so much the House I'm interested in, the one I'm getting at. His sadness and the way he's pushing everyone away. And look, there's House and Wilson, not sure that they're ever going to be able to get over the stuff that's come between them. And then the fellows, right before they walk away from him to find their own lives. And House and Stacy! I love so much that you've included her, because whenever I write about House, she's a huge part of his backstory; I never want to forget that his relationship with her shaped everything that came afterwards.

Ahh, all the set-up before Mayfield! Oh, and I gasped when the truck hit the bus and Amber came flying forward. Not just the first time, but the increasing intensity of the music there, and House falling into everything going wrong, being a prisoner at Mayfield, all the suffering he's going through. Wham! After the slow build in the first part of the vid, it gets my heart pumping.

I wasn't expecting a voice-over, but having Nolan speak here just works perfectly. See, I didn't know he'd become such a major force in my fic, but he kept speaking up, and I'm glad you've got him doing that here as well. "I want you...to trust...people." Yes! And it's a great segue over to House and Lydia, him looking at her, considering...them together. I loved writing that scene, feeling my way in to what might have been going on between them, and it was pivotal to House's character in the story.

And, aha! The music quickens as we get into House's conflicts with Foreman! Rrraowr moments with Thirteen--again, it's so awesome that you got every relationship included, you showed that everyone's important--and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that little clip of House looking in the night table, PERFECT. Ooh, and then Foreman's fight with Thirteen: fantastically repurposed; me, I love rewriting canon my own way, with the same medical/canon events, but with my own twists on the characters' emotions and relationships, and here you've done the same thing with the vid.

Ah, House and Thirteen, their relationship is so great...and then House turning to Foreman, contemplating--I have no idea where you got the clips of them in bed together, but they work perfectly. And then the final title: a sigh as the tension is both released and heightened. Man! Yes! House walking out, "getting off the bus" metaphorically, facing his life on Nolan's suggestion/advice and because of his own getting-better-ness.

The first time I saw this, I swear, I turned right around and watched it about five more times in a row. Ah, it makes me happy. And thank you for giving a story with Foreman in it a chance! I'm so glad it worked for you. Hee, and now I've tl;dred all over your comments, but man, it was worth it. :D :D :D :D THANK YOU.
