The House Big Bang Challenge Archive

...is live!

The challenge began in September 2007, with more than sixty authors each vowing to write a minimum 20 000 word novella over the next five months. Over twenty artists signed up to create illustrations, manipulations, drawings, or vids for each story. The novellas in this archive are representative of the variety of ships and genres in the fandom, and range in subject from canon to crossovers to crack. There is certain to be a story for every taste, and we hope that you will reward the hardworking and talented authors and artists with your generous feedback.

A huge thank you to everyone: writers, artists, cheerleaders, betas, participants of all stripes, and of course, to all of you who have waited so patiently for this moment. We couldn't have done it without you.

hwshipper's crossover with Nero Wolfe is a resounding success. She writes Archie Goodwin's POV with confidence and skill, effortlessly evoking a timeless world that melds both fandoms, bringing the bright, bombastic world of Nero Wolfe to the present day. Wilson is accused of his ex-wife's murder, and A Distorted Genius carries off the mystery with great pacing and fun dialogue. The House/Wilson relationship is beautifully understated. It fits neatly with hwshipper's personal fanon-verse, while remaining completely believable in this stand-alone story. Both House and Wolfe are given moments to shine as detectives and diagnosticians, as the one solves a medical mystery and the other the murder mystery after gathering the same information. hwshipper has also offered readers several DVD extras to go with this treat of a story.

With a rich, unusual narrative style, fated_addiction has crafted a compelling account of Cameron's indecision during the summer between season three and season four. Cameron is torn between Chase, who wants to convince her that she is ready to move on--and specifically, move on with him--and House, whose strong, abiding pull hasn't faded simply because Cameron quit her fellowship. fated_addiction writes a believable and sympathetic characterization for Cameron, showing how she knows she ought to want to move on, but at the same time, how much she simply isn't ready to let go. There is a desperate languor to Cameron's actions that is strongest in the scene after she finally gives in to temptation. In how to skin your knees standing straight, fated_addiction has built a wonderful atmosphere of ambivalence, uncertainty, and, finally, acceptance.
