Title: your rosary beads under the bed
Author: [livejournal.com profile] fated_addiction
Pairing: House/Cameron, Chase/Cameron
Rating: PG
Length: 22 935 words
Spoilers: General spoilers for season five.
Summary: The truth is she's had the letter since June. We carry our memories in too many ways.
Excerpt )

Cameron and her brother Jaimie don't really talk. They exchange notes, letters, emails and photos, but they don't talk. At least not about anything of any real importance. But when Jaimie, who joined the army years ago much to their parents' consternation, comes to visit Cameron, all the the unnamed, unspoken tensions between brother and sister start to reveal the cracks and unsaid small faults in Cameron's relationship with Chase. The strain of so many small silences takes its toll on her, and she finds herself inexplicably drawn towards House.

[livejournal.com profile] fated_addiction's rich, dense prose creates a moody and atmospheric story. A wealth of everyday detail adds up to an inevitable, oppressive air where the simple act of washing one's hands takes on great significance. This is a great read for anyone inclined towards hints of House/Cameron and introspective character studies.

Title: The Open Road
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pun
Pairing: House/Wilson
Rating: NC-17
Length: 25 000 words
Spoilers: Through season three.
Summary: Wilson goes along for the ride.
Excerpt )

The Open Road is the consummate roadtrip fic. [livejournal.com profile] pun combines the best of the travelling tropes--sleeping together in tiny rundown motels, country fairs with carnies, and being trapped together for hours in the car--with a wonderful exploration of House and Wilson's characters at a crossroad in their relationship. The road itself is a character; [livejournal.com profile] pun does a marvelous job of evoking the changing setting. The disconnected mood of the story fits Wilson's POV perfectly, as he follows House's lead and tries to understand his motives. This works especially well during their intense first kiss and Wilson's subsequent confusion. The sex scenes are incredibly hot, but they don't discount the importance of the way House and Wilson's friendship is changing. In the end, The Open Road leads to a conclusion that feels flawlessly appropriate.

Title: My Brother's Keeper
Author: [livejournal.com profile] shutterbug_12
Pairing: Gen: House, Cuddy, Wilson.
Rating: R
Length: 24 814 words.
Spoilers: None.
Summary: An on-the-job incident forces House to experience his life beyond the visible spectrum; Cuddy and Wilson struggle to guide him through a darkness that neither of them can see and preserve the world that House remembers.
Excerpt )

[livejournal.com profile] shutterbug_12's My Brother's Keeper is an incredibly intense experience. When House loses his sight in an accident, the result is a reevaluation of his entire life, especially his relationship with Cuddy and Wilson--the only two people he might trust enough to help him. All three grow and change as House first despairs, and then begins the long road to an uncertain recovery. Throughout the story, [livejournal.com profile] shutterbug_12 uses detailed, precise description to draw the reader in to a sightless world. A particularly intimate moment is when House remembers Stacy in an attempt to forget everything going on around him...and only partly succeeds. My Brother's Keeper is a wonderful example of a hurt/comfort story; the hurt is the catalyst to show each character in sharp perspective without any over-the-top gratuitous torture, and the comfort grows naturally out of the characters' relationships, providing a very satisfactory denouement.

Title: Roots of Rhythm Remain
Pairing: House/Wilson/Cuddy
Rating: NC-17
Length: 20 000 words
Spoilers: Through "Finding Judas".
Summary: Greg, Lisa, James, and Evan, and how their story goes on.
Excerpt )

For [livejournal.com profile] sabinelagrande, Roots of Rhythm Remain began well before the Big Bang challenge as the Rhythm of the Saints 'verse, and she details the challenges and satisfactions of the experience here. The story, however, stands on its own as an in-depth development of not only the House/Wilson/Cuddy relationship, but also the character of Evan, their daughter. [livejournal.com profile] sabinelagrande uses parenthetical humour to great effect, and she creates interesting and surprising interactions between all the characters. Some scenes that particularly stand out are House and Evan's trip to Graceland--not only the trip, but the reasons for it, and its eventual fallout. Evan's first encounter with her Grandpa House is another standout scene. It can be a challenge to maintain a narrative that spans some twenty years, but Roots of Rhythm Remain reads like the best sort of family story, the sort told over photo albums and memories.

Title: A Distorted Genius

Crossover Fandom: Nero Wolfe
Pairing: House/Wilson
Rating: PG
Length: 28 500 words
Spoilers: Through "Family" for House; through A Family Affair for Wolfe.
Summary: He's a genius, eccentric, lazy, and has three staff to do all the work. And House is just the same. Wilson's been arrested on suspicion of murder, and only Nero Wolfe can help.
Excerpt )

[personal profile] hwshipper's crossover with Nero Wolfe is a resounding success. She writes Archie Goodwin's POV with confidence and skill, effortlessly evoking a timeless world that melds both fandoms, bringing the bright, bombastic world of Nero Wolfe to the present day. Wilson is accused of his ex-wife's murder, and A Distorted Genius carries off the mystery with great pacing and fun dialogue. The House/Wilson relationship is beautifully understated. It fits neatly with [personal profile] hwshipper's personal fanon-verse, while remaining completely believable in this stand-alone story. Both House and Wolfe are given moments to shine as detectives and diagnosticians, as the one solves a medical mystery and the other the murder mystery after gathering the same information. [personal profile] hwshipper has also offered readers several DVD extras to go with this treat of a story.
