Title: Air Conditioner
Author: [livejournal.com profile] alanwolfmoon
Pairing: House/Foreman
Rating: PG-13
Length: 39,477 words
Spoilers: Begins about a month after the end of s4, and takes a different path, ignoring s5.
Summary: After Head&Heart, House is physically damaged. A previously existing coworker-with-benefits relationship with Foreman is the only connection he has to rely on afterwards.
Excerpt )

How does a relationship progress from 'coworkers with benefits' to something approaching real love? House and Foreman have been together for a few months, but for two men who are scared out of their wits by commitment, it takes more than that to admit that what they feel might be something more. [livejournal.com profile] alanwolfmoon takes the time to outline all the obstacles that stand between House and Foreman and actually saying the words. House's injuries after the bus crash are more substantial, and he needs reassurance that Foreman doesn't pity him. Foreman is no more certain that he can work up the courage to tell House that he's ready to take the next step. [livejournal.com profile] alanwolfmoon's Air Conditioner is all the more wonderful for its rarity. It's a long, character-driven, romantic story--with the romance, of course, taking a necessary backseat to arguments, fights, and frustration. Light and quick-paced, Air Conditioner shows House and Foreman at their stubborn and infuriating best.

Title: Strings
Author: [personal profile] zulu
Pairing: House/Foreman
Rating: NC-17
Length: 42 000 words
Spoilers: Through "Euphoria".
Summary: Because after Foreman fucks up, he might actually be teachable. Because House is the best one to knock him down and then show him what a moron he is. "Because he could be better," he says, and he hates that it's the truth, that he's telling it to Cuddy like it matters.
Excerpt )

[personal profile] zulu's Strings is an addition to her Percussion-verse stories, which follows the relationship of an alternate universe version of House and Foreman, where Foreman was not hired on as one of House's fellow, but in fact, works in PPTH's neurology department. Strings itself deals with an alternate version of the episode Euphoria and explores the impact of such an intense event on House and Foreman's burgeoning relationship. As in most of her stories, Strings benefits greatly from [personal profile] zulu's keen ear for dialogue, light sense of humor, and sharp attention to detail. The emotional beats of the story ring true, warm and painful in turns. All of their characters get their moments to shine, to come alive. Foreman's father in particular is well-drawn for a character who has only had a few appearances in canon. We, as the readers, already know how this story goes, but that doesn't mean it's not worth telling again.

Title: The Open Road
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pun
Pairing: House/Wilson
Rating: NC-17
Length: 25 000 words
Spoilers: Through season three.
Summary: Wilson goes along for the ride.
Excerpt )

The Open Road is the consummate roadtrip fic. [livejournal.com profile] pun combines the best of the travelling tropes--sleeping together in tiny rundown motels, country fairs with carnies, and being trapped together for hours in the car--with a wonderful exploration of House and Wilson's characters at a crossroad in their relationship. The road itself is a character; [livejournal.com profile] pun does a marvelous job of evoking the changing setting. The disconnected mood of the story fits Wilson's POV perfectly, as he follows House's lead and tries to understand his motives. This works especially well during their intense first kiss and Wilson's subsequent confusion. The sex scenes are incredibly hot, but they don't discount the importance of the way House and Wilson's friendship is changing. In the end, The Open Road leads to a conclusion that feels flawlessly appropriate.

Title: Dark Water
Author: [livejournal.com profile] delphinapterus
Pairing: House/Wilson, House/Wilson/Cuddy, Cuddy/Wilson
Rating: NC-17
Length: 20 000 words
Spoilers: None
Summary: Wilson has to do a freebie because of a mix up with a race horse. House is just getting back into the game and Cuddy finds both these ghosts from the past showing up at the same time. Things get complicated with two FBI agents are thrown into the mix and Chase finally gets a solo hit.
Excerpt )

Dark Water takes an interesting turn as a House AU where House and Wilson run a business together--as hit men. With Chase as their somewhat bungling assistant, they're doing well for themselves, until a woman from both their pasts shows up unexpectedly. When Cuddy becomes the target of an assassination plot, [livejournal.com profile] delphinapterus's fast-paced, light-hearted story takes off. With banter, hijinks, and a hint of a fusion with Grosse Point Blank, Dark Water is a fun rollercoaster of a story. [personal profile] delphinapterus makes best use of all the characters, including an amusing subplot for Chase, as House and Wilson slowly discover that everything between them and Cuddy is more than what it first seemed--and it has the potential to become something even greater.
