Please comment here to request a beta or volunteer your services as a beta. You may want to include the following things in your comment:

1. What kind of story you're writing (girlslash, boyslash, het, gen, characters, rating).
2. What kind of beta you're looking for (plot, story, characterization, grammar, style, etc.)
3. What kind of beta you can provide.
4. Links to previous stories you've written.
5. When you plan to be ready with your rough draft.

Any other information you want to provide is fine too.

Folks, remember that we're trying to keep beta/audiencing groups smallish, so that the surprise is greater when the stories are revealed--but don't let that stop you from asking for support from our beta volunteers as necessary. They're there for you.

If you'd like to be a cheerleader, post here as well! Writers need plenty of encouragement. If you'd like to be someone writers can go to for a general pick-me-up or handholding, let us know here. Writers, if you're stuck and need to flail at someone who'll listen, ask one of our cheerleaders.

Ever wish that there was a story out there, somewhere, that just happened to hit every fic kink you ever had?

The one where Cuddy and House were together once, but aren't any more, and there is fallout and backstory and college shenanigans and a secret hush-hush pregnancy that no one ever talks about and they're different people now, goddammit, but they're older and lonelier and maybe there's still something there after all?

The one where Wilson lives in Montreal and goes to McGill and speaks French and meets his first wife and loses his brother and then he meets House and then they *both* speak French and possibly it's a bit more about House and Wilson speaking French than any of that other stuff?

The one where Cameron leaves and attains personal growth and meets a guy who reminds her of her poor dead husband and then she realizes that poor-dead-husband isn't her type anymore because she's grown as a person and then she storms back to Princeton-Plainsboro and gives House what-for and doesn't take no for an answer?

The one where Chase goes back to Australia and it's totally epistolary with emails and chats because he misses--weirdly, and where the hell this came from he doesn't know--Foreman, and then they both say that of course plane tickets are too expensive anyway but then they meet up somehow at a conference or something and then the BIG REALIZATION hits them?

The one where Cuddy and Wilson bond over House but then slowly slowly come to an understanding between them, and there's cheating and dissatisfaction but ultimately they get their lives together and it's not perfect and there's still House somewhere in the mix but they make it work?

The one where Cuddy and Stacy were secretly lovers ever since House's infarction and even over the years and when Stacy came back to Princeton it wasn't just Greg she was interested in and Mark totally knows and maybe even condoned a threesome once and what if House finds out?

The one where House is a kindergarten teacher? ...no, no, wait, come back, somebody's going to write this, right? I MEAN COME ON.

If you're not a writer, or if 20 000 words is very intimidating, or you'd like to pitch a few ideas in the pot, then this is the post for you! Give of your plotbunnies, and the Big Bang participants will thank you.

Challenge Rules for Artists and Vidders
1. You agree to create at least one piece of art or a vid to accompany one of the Big Bang stories.
2. Art can be of any type you wish: orginal illustration, cover art, photo manip.
3. Art or Vid can be of any rating you choose, provided that it is not more than one rating higher than your chosen fic. For instance, if your fic is G, gen, you cannot make shippy art or rate higher than PG-13.
4. You will be able to post your artwork or vid at your livejournal or site after the challenge goes live. If you'd rather, we will host your art at the Big Bang site.
5. Art and vids may not be posted unlocked anywhere on the web, in whole or in part, before March 30, 2008. Posting to betas or regular small audiencing groups is excepted, but keep the numbers down.

Important Deadlines
1. You must sign up by February 15, 2008, when writers' first drafts are due. Yes, that's a long time in the future, but we'd really appreciate sign-ups sooner rather than later; also, we will be advertising this post again before the deadline.

2. On February 16 a list of story titles and summaries will be posted for you to claim as prompts on a first come, first served basis. Once you have claimed a prompt, you will be given the author's name and you will be able to review the story draft for additional inspiration.

3. The due date for completed artwork/vids is March 25, 2008. You must provide us with either a live link to the art or vid, or the art file itself in a photobucket compatible format.

4. Your art or vid will be included on the House Big Bang website starting March 30, 2008.

Challenge Rules for Writers
1. Stories must have a minimum length of 20,000 words. There is no maximum length.
2. Stories may be any genre: gen, het, boyslash, or girlslash.
3. The story's central element must relate to House, MD, and its characters. Crossovers and alternate universes are permitted.
4. Stories will be posted to a central site on the day the challenge goes live, with links to the summaries in this community for feedback, but afterwards may be posted to your personal journal or site.
5. The stories MAY NOT be posted, in whole or in part, prior to March 30, 2008. You may, of course, share with betas, but please keep your story under wraps as much as possible, so that the artists/vidders can make their choices anonymously when the time comes.
6. All stories must be betaed before final posting.

Important Deadlines
1. Sign-ups close at 5 PM, MST, September 15.

2. You must have a draft completed by February 15, 2008. This is important so that we know you will be finished, and your work can be given to the artists and/or vidders.

3. February 15 through February 21, summaries of the fics will be posted as an anonymous list of prompts for artists/vidders to claim.

4. March 25, final drafts and final art/vids must be completed.

5. The challenge site and the links to stories, art, and vids goes live on March 30, 2008.

Welcome to the Big Bang Challenge for the House, M.D. fandom.

The Big Bang challenge originated in the Harry Potter community, and has since migrated and evolved through Supernatural, Heroes, SGA, and others.

The challenge is for writers to create a 20 000 word (or longer) novella for het, gen, or slash in the House fandom. Artists and vidders can create illustrations or trailer vids to go with each story.

Important Dates
September 15 - Sign ups for writers end.
December 15 - Halfway point
February 15 - Finished stories are due. No extensions will be given.
February 15 through 21 - Artists and vidders claim fic summaries.
March 25 - Artists' and vidders' submissions are due.
March 30 - Archive goes live.
